Community Service
Serving the community and their animals is one of SPARE’s main goals. Because the Shelter is located in a semi-rural environment, many of our neighbors rely on their horses and donkeys to earn their daily livings. They also keep dogs, often for guarding purposes, sheep, and chickens. Our free treatment of their animals not only provides the animals essential treatment that they would not otherwise receive, but it also provides an opportunity for us to build relations with the community and communicate information about proper treatment of animals and good health and hygienic practices for the individuals and for their animals.
We provide these services to the community free of charge because we know that the community members who rely on horses and donkeys for their work simply cannot pay for the treatment and medicine, and without our services, would leave their animals untreated. In the exceptional case when an individual has some means, we may suggest a contribution. In all cases, the gratitude for our services is obvious on the faces of these individuals.
